Lake Texoma is one of the most popular fishing and recreation lakes in the South. Sugar Hill RV Resort is about 25 minutes south of Sherman on US-75 — close to the lake, but with resort-quality amenities most lakeside parks can't offer.
Lake Texoma draws around 6 million visitors a year for fishing, boating, and lake recreation. It's one of the best striped bass fisheries in the country, and the marinas and recreation areas along the Texas-Oklahoma border are packed in summer.
The catch (pun intended): many RV parks near the lake are rustic. Basic hookups, gravel pads, limited shade, and few amenities beyond a boat ramp. If you want to fish the lake during the day and come back to a heated pool, hot tub, fitness center, and landscaped patio at night, Sugar Hill is worth the 25-minute drive south.
Sherman itself is a growing city of 40,000+ with a historic downtown, good restaurants, and the charm of a real Texas county seat. Denison, adjacent to Sherman, adds the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site, a revitalized downtown arts district, and additional dining options.
Distance:
US-75 north from Sugar Hill to downtown Sherman is about 22 miles and takes about 23–25 minutes. The drive is mostly rural highway — low traffic, low stress. To reach Lake Texoma and Eisenhower State Park, add another 15 minutes beyond Sherman.
Heading south from Sugar Hill, you're back into McKinney in 15 minutes and Dallas in under an hour. Sugar Hill is well-positioned as a midpoint between the lake country to the north and the metro to the south.
Who Stays Here:
Fishing trip groups. Lake Texoma is famous for striped bass, and guided fishing trips run year-round. Sugar Hill gives your group a comfortable basecamp with room to clean up, grill your catch, and relax by the pool after a day on the water.
Snowbirds and seasonal travelers. Highway 75 is a major north-south corridor for RVers traveling between Oklahoma/Kansas and the DFW area. Sugar Hill is a natural stopping point — nicer than a highway pull-off, better equipped than most parks between Sherman and Dallas.
Visitors to Austin College or Grayson College. Parents dropping off students, attending events, or visiting for the weekend often need a few nights' stay. Sugar Hill is close enough for day visits without the limited hotel options in Sherman.
Oklahoma border travelers. If you're crossing between Texas and Oklahoma and want a real stop rather than just a fuel-up, Sugar Hill is well-positioned just south of the Texoma region.
Why Choose Sugar Hill
Most RV parks near Lake Texoma are bare-bones — gravel pads, basic hookups, and a boat ramp. Sugar Hill gives you the amenities lakeside parks don't:
• Full hookups at every site — 30/50 amp, water, sewer
• Heated pool and hot tub — soak tired muscles after a day on the water
• Outdoor grills at the pool and patio — cook your catch the right way
• Landscaped patios and 13 acres of walking trails — this isn't a dusty lot by the marina
• Modern laundry and hot showers — clean up properly before the drive home
• Propane available on-site — refill without hunting for a station
Twenty-five minutes south of Sherman, with every comfort a lakeside park wishes it had.
